I wrote this poem with the sound of machines all around me.
Not the ones inside data centres
but the ones at the gym,
where I took my children,
and watched a hundred humans strain against themselves,
wanting to be stronger, leaner, seen.
Men with muscle.
Women sculpted like myth.
The noise of effort and longing
so loud
I could barely hear myself think
but I didn’t…
